While it is clear that their priority is Lionel Messi, who has been waiting weeks on end for an official offer from the Catalans at this point, Barcelona are also targeting moves in other positions.<\/p>\n
Despite having Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Franck Kessie, Gavi, and Pablo Torre in central midfield across two positions, Bar\u00e7a are looking to sign Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City on a free transfer this summer.<\/p>\n
Barcelona fans were given a scare yesterday, though, when reports claimed that Gundogan is now close to signing a renewal with Manchester City.<\/p>\n
However, Gundogan\u2019s agent, Ilhan, has rejected any rumours, saying, \u201cNothing has been agreed with City, or any other club.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe recent reports are not true. Ilkay is only focused on the [Champions League] final,\u201d he added, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.<\/p>\n
Barcelona had initially offered Gundo a two-year contract with the option of extending for another year. However, when their deal was matched by City, they decided to improve it, making it into a three-year fixed deal.<\/p>\n
They are confident about completing the transfer now, as it seems difficult that City would match Barcelona\u2019s offer.<\/p>\n
The blaugranes are likely going to sign more midfielders this summer. With Sergio Busquets leaving, they will need to reinforce the defensive midfield position, with the names of Ruben Neves, Martin Zubimendi, Sofyan Amrabat, among others, on the table.<\/p>\n
Further, Gabri Veiga has also been linked to the club, having scored a brace against them as early as yesternight.<\/p>\n
