Jorge Mendes is one of the most successful football agents of the 21st century, representing players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Darwin Nunez among others.
Even in the Barcelona circle, Mendes represents Alejandro Balde. In fact, the Portuguese super-agent is already in negotiations with the Catalan club over the contract renewal of the young left-back.
Nonetheless, a recent report from Fabrizio Romano suggests one more Barcelona player is set to hire Jorge Mendes as his agent. The player in question is Lamine Yamal, a youth player who currently plies his trade for Barcelona’s U19 squad.
A right winger by trade, Yamal has enjoyed immense success in youth competitions so far and has been a regular for Barcelona in the UEFA Youth League. His contributions have not gone unnoticed either, with many expecting him to make an impression on the first team, sooner rather than later.
With that in mind, Yamal has hired Mendes. The appointment comes in the midst of ongoing negotiations between the 15-year-old and Barça over a renewal.
Given his age, the club are hoping to tie him down on a long-term deal before he is able to sign a professional contract.
The Portuguese agent will now take care of these negotiations with Barcelona. He will also be responsible for dictating the future of the 15-year-old, who is regarded as the next big thing to come out of the famed La Masia academy.
The Barcelona camp rate Yamal highly and the player has been called up to first-team training by Xavi Hernandez multiple times so far. Hence, it could only be a matter of time before the winger makes his first-team debut.
