In the final hours of the Mercato, Barcelona is seeking to sign a midfielder in light of the Catalan team’s urgent need for a star in the midfield to restore balance to the team.
In light of this, Spanish press reports confirmed that Barcelona held talks with the Arsenal midfielder, who has a contract with the London club until June 2024.
The Spanish newspaper “Sport” explained that Jorginho was considered one of Barcelona’s targets this January, when Barcelona reached out to him.
The Spanish newspaper added that the Blaugrana’s contract with the Italian player would have required him to cancel his contract with the London club, in order to join Barcelona as a free player, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did two years ago.
Sport added that if the Italian star is still available as a free player next summer, it would not be surprising if Barcelona contacted him in the future.
The Catalan club announced some time ago that it wanted to sign a midfielder this January, in order to compensate for Javi’s injury.
Deco is pressing hard to finalize the contract with the player during the current winter transfer period and not wait until next summer due to the team’s need to sign the player.
