Girona full-back is an option to fill the right-back role at the Camp Nou
At just 19 years old, Arnau Martínez has become one of the most prominent players in Girona, a club where he is the youngest goalscorer in the history of the entity.
In an interview with TV3, the Girona right-back expressed his desire to return to Barcelona. “If I return, he will be part of the first team. It is clear that I would like to return to Barcelona, just as I would like to go to any of the best clubs in the world,” Arnaud said.
The defender arrived in La Masia, where he met Alejandro Balde in the youth teams and their friendship continues to this day.
After eight seasons in the Barcelona shirt, he left Arnau. “I have to thank them for releasing me, otherwise I wouldn’t be here now. I probably would have played for Barcelona’s reserve team.”
In the same context, the Catalan newspaper “Sport” recently stated that Barcelona is ready to pay 20 million euros to include Arnaud Martinez, defender of the Spanish youth team, in the winter of next year to improve the performance of the back line, which has suffered a lot this season.
Arnau’s return to Barcelona could be achieved in the winter or in the summer before next season. The Girona fullback has expressed his admiration for coach Xavi Hernandez, who wants him in his ranks.
What enhances Martinez’s chances of moving to Camp Nou is that he spent a period in the
junior stage within the walls of the “La Masia” academy, the stronghold of Barca’s talents, and recently stated that he dreams of moving to Barca again and playing for the first team.
Arnau is distinguished by his possession of the advantages of the modern wing, in terms of speed and tremendous defensive capabilities, the lack of times he loses the ball and his distinction in the process of covering and dispersing.
“I like him as a footballer and as a coach, and he’s doing very well. I’ve been a Barcelona fan all my life. When I was born I was a member and always went to matches with my father and my cousin.
Arnau is now focusing on the Spain Under-21 national team, along with Barcelona duo Arnau Tenas and Alejandro Balde.
Arnau played 6 matches with the Spain under-19 team, in which he scored a goal, while he played two matches with the El Matador under-21 team.
